Gimme all your love

 photo GimmeAllYourLove_wishcandy_zpsc8d0a187.jpg

Despite all the harshness in our world, we need to be open to change. New people, places, images, music sentiment. Step out today ready to accept the good in life. It's okay to smile in the face of adversity. Take a little you time.

This is a little sneak peek of some of the new work i'll be showing at Bear & Bird gallery next month for the Girls vs Boys show! Super excited to be showing alongside such talent. Be sure to check out opening night (March 8th) if you live near Lauderhill, FL ;)

Post its show at Giant Robot 2!

Photobucket

This year I got invited to Giant Robot's Post-its show! There's quite a few post-its of mine there. I'm so fucking thankful to be working with GR. They put on such amazing shows and i'll be showing along artists i admire. Coming full circle!

As some of you know i originally wanted to be a fashion designer (long story how i wound up here). Artists like Audrey Kawasaki and Stella Im Hultberg made me decide that if I went into art I could make it. Seven years later! BAM!

The show opening is tonight and will be open until the 16th! But don't wait too long because all the good ones will be taken first. There is a line queueing outside Giant Robot as I type!

For those of you wondering, yes I'm still on break. It's been a wonderful month of contemplation and I'll still be taking more time. But I'll be back around January with a vengeance! xo

Edit: Just found out that Gary Baseman is in the show! *o*

You don't own me

You don't own me

If you ever meet me and ask me what my paintings mean i will silently pause. I will studder and babble. I have a hard time articulating art into speech.

Turning the impossible into images? Great! Articulating things into written words? Sure!

So if you ask i will most likely say: "It's up to interpretation. No answer is wrong." But never doubt that I have good intentions. Art about struggle and triumph. About self empowerment and bringing our dreams into reality.

If there is something you've been putting off until the "right time" let me tell you something. There is no perfect time and you can always find an excuse. Start now, work hard, and your dreams will happen sooner.

We're all just figuring it out and making it up as we go along. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. xo

First Love

first love
Watching cartoons was a huge part of my childhood. Sitting in front of the television with my brother watching flashing colors in awe while devouring technicolor cereals. I was and am equally amazed by a great cartoon or a fine art painting. Whatever fine art really means these days.

I'm really esctatic and greatful to be a part of Moon Power, a Sailor Moon art zine! A lot of talented folks were asked to take part in it. So here's my submission!

Cheers to our current selves and childhood selves being excited and mega proud! xo

Nerves

Nerves

Nerves. As in a bundle of. and of steel. You can be hesitant and afraid yet still kick some ass! Being fearless isn't the lack of fear, but acknowledging the feeling. Having lunch with it and telling it to go fuck off! Do what you want to do deep down anyway.

Go kick some ass! Want something bad enough, work hard enough, you'll get it.

Wish you were here

Wish you were here

Wish you were here, watercolor and graphite. 8x10 inches, 2012.

The dull ache of missing someone close, but knowing it's for the best that they aren't there with you. Nothing has changed.

The static in front of your dreams

The static in front of your dreams

Your mood can quickly turn sour when you expect things to happen much quicker than they actually can. Take the time to dream up where you want to be in one, two, or five years.

What do you have to do to get there? Write that down. Have you been working on those things? If not, you'd better get going. The time you take to make excuses is time you could be getting shit done.

Go! Eventually you'll feel better.

Comfort Queen

Comfort QueenComfort Queen, watercolor and graphite. 9x12 inches, 2012.

Adjusting to a new place is tough. Reading books and surrounding myself with art is the best way to get comfortable.

I feel like my work is building up to something and i'm excited to see where it goes. It was a lot of fun making such a detailed space for one of my ladies. I need her rad outfit and poster. If I were to have a surf/ rockabilly band it'd definitely be called "Oh hell yeah!"

Not all is noble

not all is noble
"Not all is noble," watercolor and graphite. 5x7 inches, 2012.

I'm taking her and my next drawing along on my journey as a reminder. To work hard but also allow myself fun.

This piece is going in Bear and Bird's Starter Art Show on May 5th! Glad to have it done early so I can concentrate on my move out west!

Baby, you don't have to settle

Baby, you don't have to settle
"Baby, you don't have to settle," watercolor and graphite. 5x7 inches, 2012.

I'm looking forward to hanging out with my surrealist painter buddy tomorrow. One that needs a website of her own, hint hint! Hoping some of our weirdness inspires each other.

Feels surreal making my rounds and visiting friends, knowing I won't see them for a really long time. If i haven't mentioned before, it's kind of official now. I'm moving to California. (I currently live near Baltimore).

The west has been calling me for years, so it really doesn't feel like I'm really going. I'll know I've arrived when it's winter and i don't have to shovel snow.

Sadness is a blessing

Sadness is a blessing
Sadness is a blessing, watercolor and graphite. 5x7 inches, 2012.

Been a rough few weeks. Slowed down to a halt, bashing my head into an art block. Feel like i'm coming back. Hello!

Yes, if you know where the title is taken from i'll slow clap for you. It couldn't have been more perfect.

Pizza Whipped

pizza whipped
"Pizza Whipped", watercolor and graphite. 8x10 inches, 2012.

I'm super pleased with my pizza girl. She almost makes up for my huge art block last week!

She was created for Pony Club Gallery's, "Pizza Show" on March 6th! I'm extremely thankful to be invited to such a rad show. Definitely not one to miss if you live near Portland.

She'll be included during my print pre-orders this week, so keep an eye out or snag the original during the show!

She won't follow you

She won't follow you
"She won't follow you", watercolor and graphite. 8x10 inches, 2012.

She was created for Vessel Collective's Say Anything [Interview + Illustration] Project Exhibition. Inspired by Say Anything's song "She won't follow you"

I was very excited and honored to be contacted by Gina Moccio for this project, since it's right up my alley. Thank you!

If you live in Florida, check out the opening! It's on March 12th, and you can get details on how to get an invite here. There will be food and drinks!

Everything will be alright

everything will be alright
"Everything will be alright," watercolor and graphite. 8x10 inches, 2012.

Clearly I have a stripe addiction, but i'm not alone in this.
